Postfix, Mutt And No Root Mail?

Thanks Peter, now getting some joy but not all is
right, yet. I may have added those dirs earlier trying
to get mutt to read root mail based on some output,
sorry. I now have a mail file in /var/mail/lchata
which reflects Hal's echo command, shown below.
However, wondering about chmod 600 as ls -l
/var/mail/lchata shows:
-rw------- 1 lchata mail 489 2007-09-01 12:03
/var/mail/lchata
Shouldn't the mail group have all priviledges?  Also,
all /var/mail, /var/spool/mail have my username as a
dir, oops just checked again and now all are a file.
Guess the symlink took care of that.
The only problem I have now(I think) is that mutt
still has the same errors, doesn't show the echo mail
file or any root mail.  Perhaps, I should purge and
install mutt again.  The mutt errors are shown at the
top of this post.
Thanks for the progress as I was a little frustrated.
