Puzzled about networking setting

My wife is running 7.04 on her T40. I run T43 on 7.04 and recently
upgraded to 7.10. She has been complaining getting intermittent network
disconnection. My machine has roaming mode enabled under the property
of wired network, DNS is automatically set by ubuntu to the correct
static IP, gateway and DNS. In fact, I did not have to make any setting
at all and I have no problems connecting to the network.

The T40 initially also has automatic enabled and roaming mode enabled.
But hours later, there was no connection, I think it is because the DNS
changed.

So I made a manual connection by fixing it to the static IP, gateway and
DNS. In our working area, we use static IP anyway. I saved the setting
to a name in a profile. OK, that works but hours later, network got
disconnected again. The DNS for some reason changed to another set and
so did the static IP.

Now, my wife complains every day and has always wanted to get back on to
XP. Is there a way I can fix the network setting so that it will work
once and for all? Any inputs are must appreciated.

Terence
