Network connectivity - ISP is AOL

I have just been introduced to UBUNTU 7.04 by installing from the CD from
ComputerActive magazine, and have successfully installed as a dual boot
alongside my Windows XP O/S.

Great - impressed! So far so good - but internet connectivity aludes me (I'm
submitting this email, reluctantly, from my Window/AOL email account.)

My AOL connectivity is via broadband, using a BT Voyager 105 ADSL Modem,
which connects to a USB port on my Fujitsu Siemens desktop PC.

In UBUNTU my network setting panel detects a Modem connection and advises me
it is not configured. I do not want to rely upon a slow dialup modem, that
would be a retrograde step.

How do I achieve broadband connectivity using my existing ISP and ADSL modem?

I appreciate using a USB-connected modem is less than ideal - but I want to
not only dual boot Operating Systems, but also internet connectivity from both
environments, preferably using the same ISP/broadband setup. Is this
possible - or are AOL so restrictive that I wil not be able to use their broadband
service except through their Windows XP AOL9.0 software?

Thanks in advance!

Derek
