If by "5 system" you mean a 5.x system, maybe. It depends on whether you originally paritioned your drive with /home as a separate partition. If yes, then when you get to the partitioning option of the installation routine, make sure to reformat / and leave /home untouched. If no, then you'll have to copy your home directory to another disk or back it up to cd. In either case, you will want to be selective about restoring configuration files from such an old system since they may not play nice with newer versions of the programs.
