Compiz on 7.10 with ATI X1600

I had the same problem, with a completely unrelated hardware, but maybe
the problem is the same, and the solution as well (which is more
interesting).

Problem is, if you have modified the xorg.conf after installation of
feisty, then your upgrade did not overwrite that file, and thus some
option or other that compiz need hass not been activated.

If you look at the beginning of xorg.conf file, there is the command to
issue for installing a "default" xorg.conf file, you could try doing so
and see if you can start visual effects.
