Date and time in system menu

I am in fact using xubuntu with the xfce window manager. I suspect this
is a KDE or Gnome thing.
I suspect that not being able to find the menu entry is because I don't
have the package loaded but this seems strange as I upgraded via the
update manager.
I have also noticed that I don't have the network entry either.
