ATI video card possible or not?

I went to the store to see and the only Nvidia are PCIe I don't have it on
the motherboard so no exchange possible, I will try to install the drive for
ATI later or tomorrow again but I am wondering if the fact that I am trying
to install the drive with the card out of the computer is causing trouble or
if I should be able to install the drive no matter which card is in.
