ATI video card possible or not?

oK,I tried to do what was written on the site but each time I run the
command :
 sudo ./ati-driver-installer-8.28.8.run
There is a problem. First it write creating directory fglrx-install;
Verifying archives integrity...All good; Uncompressing  ATI Proprietary
Drivres-8.28.8; Then in RED ATI Technologies Linux Driver Installer
/Packager
./ati-installer .sh: 165: Syntax error: Bad substitution
Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install. Then everything stop here. I
tried different command but they didn't work out. Do you have any idea of
what I could do?

For reference this is what I already did
sudo mkdir /ati
cd /ati
sudo wget
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-8.28.8.run
chmod +x ati-driver-installer-8.28.8.run
