ATI video card possible or not?

Hi, you told me to buy a Nvidia 6800 GT with dual output but my friend
brought me  an ATI radeon HD 2400 pro instead. Do you know if this card can
work with ubuntu? I tried to install it but the screen freezes before I can
log on and I just took it off. I tried to install the ubuntu drivers but I
apparently mess up the computer and the graphic interface wasn't working
anymore so I just replaced what I did with the back up and am using the
integrated card from the motherboard. Do you know if this card can work with
ubuntu and what drivers I would have to install? also how to install the
driver because I used a site on ubuntu but apparently did something wrong or
use the wrong one. It is an AGP card, an ASUS A7N8V-LA motherboard, and the
computer is an HP pavilion a 520n with ubuntu 6.10 installed on it.
