It indicates the version you currently have installed.

What do you mean?  One of them has +medibuntu1, the other doesn't.

Medibuntu applied some changes on top of the version in kubuntu.  You
may download the medibuntu .deb and unpack the changelog.Debian file
from it to see what exactly they changed.  apt-listchanges is a useful
package that does this for you before every apt-get upgrade.
