xorg logging / turning off bulletproof x?

thanks.  I guess I was missing the data in Xorg.0.log.old; in any case
was able to modify /etc/gdm/gdm.conf to disable the failsafe server,
which gave me the info i needed.  in my case, the nvidia driver is not
found, i imagine due to some compatibility issue -- maybe the
linux-restricted-modules and linux-image packages have some kind of a
mismatch?  anyway, i'm hoping it will sork\t itself out soon.
