A few suggestions:

How much RAM is free on each system. Perhaps one system is using more
RAM before Acrobat is started and this system then needs to swap?

Acrobat reader uses the JRE, IIRC. What are the versions of the JRE?

I don't use Adobe Acrobat though, so I can't be of too much help.
