Which media did you install from? Alternative or the normal CD? Can you boot
using the Live CD directly from CD?
When the screen blanks, can you switch to an a normal text console (pressing
CTRL-ALT-F1 should give you a text only console asking you for a username)
Ideally, it would be handy to be able to see the output from dmesg... do you
have enough knowledge to perform this or are you totally lost at his point?
