changing user with SU, gives "Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server"

I did :
	#su OTHERUSER
and :
	OTHERUSER at PC:~$ gedit
just to get:
	Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
	Xlib: No protocol specified

Any ideas?

I have a similar prob with 
	#sudo -u OTHERUSER APP
