Just installed Gutsy in VMware, started in recovery mode and typed
"exit" at the prompt... and it very much definitely started the
graphical interface, as it always in previous releases of Ubuntu.
If it doesn't work for you (the OP), then there is definitely something
wrong worthy of a bug report ! ;-)
