Hello,
I may be dating myself as a linux geek here but what the heck, this
may prove informative for anyone who uses a console frequently.

that last sentance caught my attention. I recall that in the old days
of slackware installation, when X wasn't always part of the default
install, that during installation you could choose from a littany of
console fonts.
The package 'console-tools' allows one to change the font of the console.
Also please note that the package 'gpm' allows the console to be
mouse-aware to a degree.
I hope someone finds this useful, although nobody probably will :)
