Just a follow-up:
If my suggestions in the other post don't help, you might look in
~/.gconf/system/networking/wireless/networks
You should see a listing of networks that network manager knows about. It
can happen that these files get mucked up, with the result that n-m gets
confused. Each network should have a directory named from the essid of the
network, and containing an xml file named %gconf.xml
You can move or delete these files - but the result will be that you will
have to reset n-m for each network you remove. The %gconf.xml file is not
very complex, so you may be able to see mistakes, if any.
