I'm running Ubuntu 7.04 and have no internet access cuz it doesn't recognize my Encore PCI wireless card. I did a search and found where someone said this was an RT2500 chipset and gave a bunch of command line instructions :
1. go to TERMINAL2. type: wget http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/rt2500-cvs-daily.tar.gz3. type: tar -xzf rt2500-cvs-daily.tar.gz4. type: sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r)5. type: cd ./rt2500-cvs-*/Module6. type: make7. To test, type: sudo insmod rt2500.ko
Exit TERMINAL
1. Select: [System] – [Administration] – [Networking]2. Find the wireless card, then Select [Activate]
In the above I put this file on my desktop and ran the instructions but it said "couldn't find build-essential" or something like that.
In the end, there's still nothing under my network connections other than a plain ethernet and a modem - no wireless card.
Someone said I might have to use NDISWRAPPER but I'm not sure what to do.
Can someone help?
- John
