Oh.. I just upgraded my laptop the day before yesterday, and it all went
pretty flawless. The main issue I ran into didn't even have anything to
do with the install, namely that it needs like almost 1.4 GIGABYTES of
space to do the upgrade. I didn't have that much available, so I had to
remove a bunch of packages, do the upgrade, and then add them again. Oh
well; hard disk space is cheap I guess. :)

So.. it all works rather well. A bit more sluggish than Feisty, and I
know it's not because of Compiz because I had that running on Feisty as
well. Especially Firefox is s.. l... o w.

And OpenOffice isn't getting any faster either.

On the plus side, LOADS of small refinements. Networking/wifi finally
works like it's supposed to without me having to go in manually
everytime I switched networks. Same for Bluetooth: truly plug and play
instantly. Then the Screen (X) resolution settings are a true Godsend,
as is the restricted drivers manager. Then Pidgin (GAIM) is growing
up.. All music players still suck thick mud, there's gotta be something
more interesting out there than #$(&#(#@ Rhythmbox.. Minor peeve that,
though.

And the upgrade itself was just about flawless.. I don't like it that it
keeps asking to confirm replacing some config file, it means you can't
just let it run while you're away. It may be better to ask prior to
upgrading what the user's preference is: Replace all config files and
keep them in a new folder on the Desktop, or NOT replace all config
files and keep the new files in a folder on the Desktop. Better still,
let the upgrade tool decide what customisations to keep.

Overall I'm very happy.. just if the speed issues can be worked out then
that would be awesome; Ubuntu used to be faster than Windows XP, right
now in beta it needs some work to get back up there I think.
