Installing the nvidia drivers should need little effort in most Ubuntu
releases. In 7.04 Feisty, it should suffice to enable it in the
Restricted Drivers Manager. In older releases, you just have to install
a view packages. It is all explained here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia
Then, to install the compositing effects, you need to do a few manual
steps (which you don not have to do in Gutsy)
For Edgy and Dapper (but already default in Feisty):
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CompositeManager/AIGLX
And then you need to install a compositing manager:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CompositeManager (there are 3 links to
compositing managers. I am not sure whether Compiz has the cube, but
Beryl and Compiz Fusion do)
