Hmmm, weird that there wasn't more in /var/log/apt/term.log. Anyway, may
gutsy (which was upgraded several time since) still works fine. I have
no idea what happened to you (and, in the absence of a log, how to find
out). Maybe somebody filed bugs in launchpad?
