The machine you describe has an nVidia graphics chip, which is a good 
start - this is the biggest potential problem with laptops, but nVidia 
ones are compatible as far I know. I'm using a second hand Dell 
Inspiron, which also uses an nVidia chip, and ubuntu is running fine on 
that.
