Ah... KDE. I'm afraid that I don't have a KDE installed, so can't
immediately help you there.  I can put KDE on another system later today
and try. In the interim, you can create a menu with the paths to the
program:

/opt/openoffice.org2.3/program/soffice (swriter, smath, simpress, etc).
