Webcam on HP DV9000 series

I have HP dv9540 and ubuntu 7.10
The internal webcam works only in ekiga and kopete.
When I touch the webcam option in amsn, the webcam becomes active, and then 
amsn hangs.
All the other webcam programs I have tried does not work.


My external quickcam webcam which works on my older desktop pc, hangs 
immediately I touch the mouse on dv9540

I have had lots of difficulties in both debian and ubuntu with my quickcam 
webcam.
