problem with sound on Compaq Presario C500

Hi there,

I've been struggling with sound here for a couple of days. I've tried most
of the documentation, even re-installed
fresh kernel alsa drivers. I can give you some of the output in the
terminal. I have only been on Linux for 3 days
so please bear with my lack of knowledge. I'll be very grateful to
understand what is going on here...

Model: compaq presario C500
I think the card information is Conexant CX20549(Venice),
Intel HDA....82801G (ICH7) rev01
