No wrong answer
vmware for portability and for its support community
vmware for a larger range of guest OS support
vmware is a standard in the industry
The vmware virtual appliance community is huge and this will help you
play and familiarize yourself with virtualisation.
question about Virtual box, they claim to be the only GNU
virtualisation product, then why are their packages in archive:
deb http://www.virtualbox.org/debian gutsy non-free

Hello Bertrand,
Thanks, did what you suggested - compiz complete removal of Compiz the
problem did not repeat. No apologies please I tried learning French as a
second language in college and failed. I did not try out the cube thing
as the white screen effect was not there everytime I logged in.
Thanks again.

That's the prprietary version with some extensions to the GPL version. See
<http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Editions> for the difference between the
versions. The GPL version is in the universe repository.

Hi,
I encountered the same problem on our LTSP-server and clients.

for a more general discussion have a look at
http://ubuntu.wordpress.com/2006/03/20/disable-shutdown-for-normal-users
This works for GNOME.
We also use XFCE and then you need to do the following:
we need to force xfce in the kiosk mode by creating the file
/etc/xdg/xfce4/kiosk/kioskrc containing
[xfce4-session]
CustomizeSplash=ALL
CustomizeChooser=ALL
CustomizeLogout=ALL
CustomizeCompatibility=%wheel
Shutdown=NONE
This worked for us, so hope it will be helpfull to you as well.
Cheers,
Alexis Kotte
