Because the "other OS" was first and there is no benefit from
reinstalling it inside vmware or virtualbox?
btw. on linux-mag.com you'll find a good article about using an existing
Windows XP Harddisk Installation through vmware on Linux.

Take care, this might have a "Windows License implication" i.e. you
might have to reactivate your windows when it starts "natively" within
vmware.
