This topic is really very interesting !
I hope Ubuntu isn't following the tyrannic M$ way !!
I totally dislike M$ concept with all folders & files in C: only !!!
All my/our systems are having at least 2-3 partitions:
1st C: system
2nd D: data
3rd E: emergency
As a newbie to Ubuntu I would love to have C:\Documents and Settings
physically & really completely on the 2nd partition, preferably FAT32,
with access from WIN XP Pro's original installation and Ubuntu ;-))
When it comes to link and shadows:
IBM's great OS/2 Warp 4 must be mentioned !!!
Its solution works phantastic:
ALL personal/user data are, well structured, phsically D:\DATA.
On my System Desktop (C:\Desktop) is a single (shadow) icon called
"Data" and ...
... leads me directly to real folders & files !!
Working on a specific document, ie. a project study, the original will
be & stay in D:\BIZ\Cust\Proj\Migr2Ubuntu\PS_001.ods ...
... and only its shadow stays on the Desktop.
A doubleclick and it opens with OpenOffice, ready to work with !
If accepted from customer and signed it gets "Read ONLY" and gets
deleted on the desktop. ;-)
Finish ;-))
I would love to find out the best and easiest way to get organized with
Ubuntu before I change from OS/2 Warp ;-)))
Your advice and suggestions is very appreciated !
TIA, cheers, svobi
