SLOW boot and LONG wait when logging out to switch users.

The worst affected of the two machines is a Compaq Presario X1000.
I don't know how to get the system specs like I know in Windows, but 
from the stickers on the laptop it's got a Centrino Intel chip in there 
and an ATI Mobility Radion 9200.
I don't think the ATI card have beed detected or set up corectly, but 
I'm running VESA at the moment until I sort things out a bit more.
I think there's 512Mb memory in there and the network is wired. It can 
do wireless, but I don't think I've ever even used that.
