Type "nm-applet & " ( without quotes) in a terminal. You will probably
want to save your session ( System -Preferences - Sessions) after getting
it back - the default setting appears to be " nm-applet --sm-disable "
If this doesn't work, try typing
sudo /etc/init.d/dbus restart
You might have to repeat the nm-applet command after this, but on my
machines nm-applet appears automatically in the Notification Area after
issuing the dbus restart command.
