Hi,
I don't know if you're using gnome or KDE, or something else, but I'll
tell you how I get Spanish characters under gnome.
Start->System->Preferences->Keyboard gets me to the keyboard preferences.
Click on the "Layout Options" tab.
Click on the "Compose key position" option.
I chose right-alt, and now I can get ñ by typing, right-alt-shift-~,
followed by n. I do something similar for stuff like accents, ü, ¿, etc.
