I think I just found out why universe never included "beryl-xgl" in the 
beryl-core package.  It doesn't seem to want to build in ubuntu.  I 
grabbed the source from beryl-project and tried building it locally.  It 
fails with an error message about i386 problem with the libGl.a that's 
supposed to get built into beryl-xgl.  Here's an example:

/usr/bin/ld: warning: i386:x86-64 architecture of input file 
`/home/paul/Desktop/beryl-project.org/beryl-core-0.2.1.local/debian/beryl-mesa/lib/libGL.a(indirect_size.o)' 
is incompatible with i386 output
make[3]: *** [beryl-xgl] Error 1

I also tried grabbing the libGl.a from the mesa-dev package and 
substituting that, but it also fails with an error.  So, most likely, 
getting a workable beryl-xgl in universe may be a while.

I'll try their debs next.
