no sound since a week

Hi,

I lost sound in ubuntu 7.04 since last week. I checked if sound was muted 
(using alsamixer and kmix) and that is OK. I can see a song being played, but 
I do not have sound. I followed the wiki for installing multimedia codecs and 
they are all there. Any suggestions please
