Pidgin uses the X screensaver extension to detect idle time, so you need
to install the development packages for it. For Dapper, you'll need to
install the packages x11proto-scrnsaver-dev and libxss-dev. Then just
re-run ./configure and Pidgin's hook to use the X screensaver extension
should automatically be enabled.
