Soundmax Audio with Very high tone

I installed ubuntu 7.04 on my desktop
AMD 64 Athlon X2 with Asus M2N-MX (Nforce430)

the integrated audio - soundmax isn't working properly
whenever i start any audio ogg, right speaker outputs an irritating high
tone
any solutions?
