Is there a way to find out from which repository did a package get
installed from or from which repository it will be installed from? If
there is a way then I guess I can check the list of programs I am
interested in installing and see if there are any that are not in main.

On the other hand I had great success in upgrading my laptop (pretty new
Dell D820, dual core 2, SATA HD, 1920 x 1200, wireless, etc.) from Edgy
to Feisty. Not only the upgrade did not break anything(!) but I have
seen improvements all over the place (for example it used to have
occasionally a problem to come back from suspend. Now it works perfectly
every time). I assume the server upgrades are more straight forward
since there is less exotic hardware involved, no need to suspend, no
wireless, etc. If this is the case, I may decide to go for Feisty server.

Hmm, decisions, decisions.
