Not always. Some mainboards don't work well with Xen HVM, and probably
also with KVM, even if you have the correct CPU.
But he can try the xenoppix live cd to see if hvm domains can be
started on your hardware before fiddling with installing and running
Xen.
For KVM, you can try it from the grml live cd.
