Problem 1:
I used the article <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsXPPrinter>
in an attempt to install a printer connected to an XP computer on the
local network. The article does not suggest a response for the dialog,
which requests the model of the printer and choice of driver. One would
assume that the driver on the XP computer would suffice, however, I
chose Brother DCP-1200 (the printer is DC--1000), thinking that it may
not matter or that the two models may use the same driver. I cannot
print using this set-up. "Uncheck 'enable bidirectional support'"
checkbox is not available on this XP computer for some reason.
Problem 2:
To make matters worse, I downloaded dcp1000lpr-1.1.2-1.i386.deb and used
the command:
sudo dpkg -i --force-all dcp1000lpr-1.1.2-1.i386.deb
Selecting previously deselected package dcp1000lpr.

dpkg: error processing dcp1000lpr (--install):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 127
Errors were encountered while processing:
dcp1000lpr
I have played with it for awhile, using dselect, apt-get, and Synaptic,
but the recurring error message I am getting is:
E: The package dcp1000lpr needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an
archive for it.
I cannot do any updates until this package installation is fixed. So,
now I must humble myself and ask for help. I broke my system doing what
should have been a simple task.
