LINUX GEEKS will be wetting themselves at reports that Dell has made the decision to ship open sauce OS Ubuntu on its machines later this month. Reports on Desktop Linux say that while the system builder has yet to make an official announcement, it's 99 per cent certain that Ubuntu 7.04 will be the Linux variant preloaded on its desktops and laptops.
Ubuntu is likely to appear on Dell e-series budget machines, XPS home PCs and possibly an e-series Inspiron laptop. Prices are expected to start at around $400 for a 512MB Sempron or Celeron D system without a monitor. The choice of Ubuntu isn't much of a surprise as Mikey Dell is reported to use the OS on his home PC.
