Network manager actually works, now!

I finally got Network manager working.  I've tried it in the past and it 
did not work properly, but this time, since upgrading to 7.04, it 
worked.  Man this is the best thing since sliced bread!  I know, I'm 
easily entertained.  A simple man.  I'm so happy, I could ...

Thanks to all who contributed to getting this to work, or maybe I 
finally just figured it out.
