Hey, cool script!
I did the whole home dir backup-before-upgrade at first - worked like a
charm when going from 5.10 to 6.06, and then to 6.10. Both times I did a
whole new install. When you're ready to upgrade to 7.04 for real, you
may decide to do what I did this time instead, which was to use this:
update-manager -c -d
Worked fine, and no ill effects so far. I did end up having to carefully
note which packages to reinstall, but that's very easy, as it will show
you a screen full of stuff it's going to uninstall, which you can just
copy into a file. Later, go through that file and install the latest
versions of all that stuff. Fini.
Note that I did still backup my home dir of course - I just ended up not
needing the backup when I was done. :-)
