I wana install a linux os on my pc i386
hard ware is :
AMD Athlon(tm) 1.83G
512 M memory
Maxtor 6y120LO
and so on

but there is a big problem when I install a linux . I am fuddled.
no matter UBUNTU , DEBIAN . openSuSE .fedora Core 6
which is the hard disk can not be recognized or used by linux
I have tried many times, many distributions.

Let linux to detect my hard disk , I should try reboot and reboot again
again.

finally I can install a Debian or Ubuntu on my PC, but it can not be boot
up.

I use hard disk check software to see what 's wrong ,it report no problem.

The main point is here ,( maybe?) that the subarea/partition /dev/hda6 (
mount on / )
has a full zeros 512 Bytes DBR(which is in the head 512 Bytes of the
subarea )
and GRUB can no load kernel from that partition.(in some of my trys it can
but still can not boot .
-- kernel panic not recognize the partition and the sizes)

no matter I use other software to format partition to linux format or use
linux installer's format
the result is the same.
but if format to vfat or ntfs the DBR is not full of zeros.

I am no sure the above described clear enough, I am tired and tried
hunderous times.

any suggestions are wellcome !
give me a hand and thanks to you !
