Hello,
I am trying to install Ubuntu 6.06 on a home office computer and am new to
the Linux computing world. The computer is new and currently has no OS on
it. I was able to run the LiveCD and use the Ubuntu GUI to launch the
installer but at the step - after I enter the computer name and password
- labeled "Select a disk" the partitioner is started up successfully but the
software will not find the hard drive. I have let this run for as long as
1.5 hours but no changes occur. I looked on the compatibility of hardware
list and I could not find any issues with the hard drive that I am using.
After I quit the installation and exit ubuntu during the process everything
appears ok except for the process of "Stopping Raid Monitoring Service"
which displays "failed" whereas during the Ubuntu startup it displays
"Starting Raid Monitoring Service" and "ok".
Western Digital
Cavalier SE
250 GB , 300MB/s , 8 MB cache, 7200 rpm
Model: WD2500JS
In order to check the status of the drive I launched the BIOS setup utility
and under Advanced>IDE Configuration
OnBoard IDE Contoller [Enabled]
SATA Operation Mode [non-RAID]
SATA1 [Hard Disk]
After selecting this hard disk the following specs appear.
Device :Hard Disk
Vendor : WDC WD2500JS-60NCB1
Size : 250.0 GB
LBA Mode : Supported
Block Mode : 16 Sectors
PIO Mode : 4
Async DMA : MultiWord DMA-2
Ultra DMA : Ultra DMA-5
S.M.A.R.T. : Supported
LBA/Large Mode [Auto]
Block (Multi-Sector Tranfer) [Auto]
PIO Mode [ Auto]
DMA Mode [Auto]
S.M.A.R.T. [Disabled]
32Bit Data Transfer [Disabled]
I am not sure if this information is helpful but I considered that it was
possible that the issue resulted because the SATA operation mode was set to
non-raid.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could help me understand why this
problem is occurring. Thanks.
- Nathan
