Yes, I am aware of that.

A solution is to setup a cluster and have everything rsync'ed as you also
say. That though means purchasing extra hardware, which is not an option
right now.

Anyways, I know that no backup system is 100% fail-proof. What I am trying
to achieve here is to minimize the data loss/theft threats by spending only
time and not money (as I've already said, hardware purchase is not an option
till a year from now maybe).

Just a side note:

Please be very very careful with this set-up. If the RAID controller
detects the internal disk as faulty (maybe due to dying hdd) and no-one
sees this in time, you may end up with putting the backup back to the
internal drive by accident. I've seen something like this happening
because the backplane of the RAID controller had some troubles. There
was also a story like this on the daily WTF.

I would like to recommend to rsync/rsnapshot the data to a different
place as well (over a dedicated network connection).
