Well I can now report that trying to go from Dapper directly to Feisty
is definitely *not* the brightest thing to try - just as it says in:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FeistyUpgrades

I figured that I'd give it a try anyway since I had Dapper on a separate
hard drive on the machine that I'm testing Feisty on. What a mess. I'll
not go into details, but suffice it to say "don't try this at home
kids". I did finally get it running, but I'll certainly not be trying
that again on any system with any data of value on it.
