Nvu is in the Ubuntu repo...
The program is not developed anymore since... nearly 2 years ! :-O
Looking at the FAQ on their website:
http://www.nvu.com/faq.php#active
...it seems they are working on a ground up rewrite, so it may... it may
come back to life... one day, maybe...
I did try it 3 years ago, and found it completely unusable, sadly,
simply because the tab widget was not responsive enough to quickly
switch from the HTML code, to the preview page and vice versa. At best
it took at least 1 second, sometimes 15, depending on its mood and
amount of code.
Replacement ? Not really a replacement, but the closest I could find is
"Quanta" (though it's a KDE program). The user interface is a lot more
responsive, and it has sort of a WYSIWIG view since recently. It's not
quite really WYSIWIG, but it's more WYSIWIG than it used to be, so
hopefully it will keep getting better and better over the years.
When I am in a bad mood and I can't bear even Quanta, I just start
VMware and use Dreamweaver 4.0 on Windows XP. It's what I started with
6 years ago, before I started using Linux.
