Hi all,
after upgrading from dapper to edgy I can't get tightvncserver back
running. It seems to have problems with the fonts:
Couldn't start Xtightvnc; trying default font path.
Please set correct fontPath in the tightvncserver script.
Couldn't start Xtightvnc process.

Font directory '/usr/share/fonts/X11/Speedo/' not found - ignoring
Xvnc: dispatch: MaxClients = 1000
I checked /etc/vnc.conf and changed it to
$fontPath =
"/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc/,/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled/,/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled/,/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1/,/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/,/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi";
according to:
> ls /usr/share/fonts/X11/
100dpi/ 75dpi/ encodings/ fonts.cache-1 misc/ Type1/ util/
It still doesn't start, so I thought, ok try the xfs version.
Installed xfs, switched on listening on tcp for maximum success, started
it and tried again. This time with $fontPath = "tcp/localhost:7100";
Same result.
I also tried the unix socket one $fontPath = "unix/:7100";
Same result.
Very interesing is that it keeps looking for Speedo fonts; I've got no
idea where that one's coming from. Both vnc.conf and xorg.conf do not
contain anything about Speedos...
I already completely removed xorg and friends and reinstalled them.
Didn't change anything. Now I'm out of options and after reading about
100 google results I don't know what else to do.
Any suggestions?
I'm running tightvncserver 1.2.9-19 with xorg 7.1.1ubuntu6.2 with an
up-to-date system (except 28 python packages which are kept back for
some reason)
Cheers,
Tom
