I suspect it was an honest mistake. Many of these chat client such as google 
talk and meetro have an option to invite friends. For new users to the 
system it can a very easy way to get in contact with people. However if 
someone uses mailing lists as well as talking to individuals then they may 
inadvertantly "spam" out to more people than they expect.

How about we dont ban the user, but just let them know they made a mistake.
