Weird Video Playing Problem

Hi All,

I am having a weird video playing problem lately:

I like to use mplayer-nogui to play videos from CLI.

Lately I've noticed a few .mpeg files stop playing (moving) after about 10
seconds whilst  sound continues playing  and the time code continues
running.

It happened with a few files and different players (VLC, Xine,
Mplayer-nogui).

I am guessing it's a system-wide mpeg related problem and I cannot figure it
out!

My box is running a fresh install on Edgy (updated).

I will appreciate any input / ideas,
