KDE on 64-bit AMD (Turion)

I'm running Ubuntu (even with beryl!) on a Compaq Presario

Turion 64 (mobile opteron, kind of)
ATI Radeon Express 200M

80 GB hard drive

512 MB ram (128 dedicated to graphics)

On the gnome side everything is very stable.

On KDE, the system has the following intermittent symptoms:

1. On startup, sometimes the top tool bar (I installed) doesn't come up.
(sometimes it does)

2. Very often the sceen will go blank and a small bar of orange light
(next to the caps lock button) starts blinking. At that point I have to
reboot.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?
